Corneal Ulcers

This is deep damage in the corneal surface brought about by fungi, parasites, bacteria, and viruses.  It can also be a consequence of an injury.  The bacteria can infect a lesion once the cornea has suffered an injury or become irritated by contact lenses.  It can also come about if the eyelids do not close precisely leaving the eye dry and irritated.  In this way the ulcer may appear even without an infection.
