The Retina

Retinal detachment can be caused by:

• Hereditary diseases
• Ocular trauma
• Intra ocular bleeding or tearing of the retina
• For traction (vitreous)
• Natural aging
• Ocular diseases such as tumors, severe swelling, or diabetic complications

The treatment is always surgical and can be: vitrectomy, silicone application, bubble gas application, or retinalpexy.

One of the newer treatments is the application of intraocular avastin that inhibits the growth of abnormal retinal blood vessels.
