Episcleritis

It is the swelling of the layer that covers and nourishes the white part of the eye.  This is a common, non infectious, minor swelling with causes unknown.  It has been associated with other illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, sjogren syndrome, syphilis, herpes, and tuberculosis.
